Sweet onions and tomatoes make this bialy our current favorite. We like sweet red onions best, but if they aren’t super sweet it’s not the same, so you can substitute a sweet Vidalia or Walla Walla instead. See Sweet onion and tomato bialy.
Bialys are a staple in New York City delicatessens. Having originated in Bialystok, Poland, they are sort of a cross between a bagel and a pizza with big bagel-like chewy crusts and a topping filled depression in the center, rather than a hole.
See Bialy dough.
We freeze blueberries and use them throughout the year for waffles, blueberry muffins, or to mix in fruit smoothies. This is a quick and easy recipe that is great served as breakfast or dessert. See Waffles with blueberry sauce.
